With Salem cuddled in my arms, the weight of her body nestled into mine, comforting me, both of us fight through the exerted loss of oxygen in order to catch our breath.

They’ve scratched my itch and I’ve scratched theirs.

No strings of attachment have ever been promised.

I’ve never made commitments to a woman before, not when it comes to a potential, future relationship between me and a female… not until Salem.

But this? Her? She far exceeds any of those misplaced emotions I thought I’d felt before. With her, I want everything. I crave it.

“You alright, Cole? It looks like you’re having some pretty powerful thoughts there.”

“What makes you ask that, babe?”

“Your nose is scrunched, your forehead is wrinkled, your eyes are cloudy, and you’re scowling,” she casually remarks as her fingers stroke up and down my abs. “All of that suggests that there’s something rolling around in your mind.”

“That’s pretty observant of you,” I say in a teasing manner. “What else makes you wonder if I’m sorting through some things?”

“Well, your body tensed, then your hand stopped moving,” she states. My woman is not only perceptive, but she’s smart as fuck. She’s very vigilant when it comes to breaking things down and making sure all of the pieces of a puzzle fit together. Her detective skills are on point.

She may have pursued the wrong career.

“I’m gonna put myself out there and be honest with you,” I tell her, admitting my hesitations. “I’ve never entirely pledged myself to a woman before you, and I’m going through a variety of different emotions here. There’s a word that I’ve never said to another human being outside of my mother, and I’m struggling to say the word.”

“I understand those strings of emotions, Cole. I have that same word drifting through my head too. Then you have to wonder, is it too soon? Is this really what I’m feeling? Am I sure it’s not just sexual attraction?”

“Exactly,” I concur. “Is it too soon, Salem? I’m a bit lost here.”

“Let’s just leave it for now until we’re both one-hundred-percent positive, okay? I don’t need the words, Cole. We’re just now discovering who we are together as a couple. We’ll make sure we’re on solid ground before we go tossing out words and phrases that would hurt the other if we take them back.”

“As long as you know and are aware that that’s where I’m going.
